So, how do the House of MOUT-goers like their shiny new patch? Is it the best thing since running over OPFOR with the humvees on Snakes on a Plain? Is it the lousiest patch ever to desecrate the great game we know as America's Army? Are you sad that you can't eveng et past v2.5?
Sound off here!

I voted "Roll it back I hate it!" even though I don't hate it ; I just wish that they had tested it more thoroughly first. For example, the chat in the console sometimes disappears when you hit the "~" key and other times old text repeats itself. While I like it it being small (which they achieved at least partially by including fewer maps in the download ), I think there are too many bugs. Also, another that I have noticed is when falling from a high altitude (such as upper alpha to alpha floor and upper gray building to lower gray building floor)it no longer causes your gun to go down (not sure if that is bad or good )

v2.8.3

Horrible patch!!!!! I'm generally not one to get annoyed by small problems in patches. Let's face it, I don't get into the game enough to notice the thing.
However, this patch is horrible!!! I'm not kidding. They should apologize and revert to 2.8.2 or, at the very least they need to issue a quick update to this patch. The main problem is the console glitch. Half of the comments get randomly erased from the console so, as an admin on Of-God servers, I'm sure it will be really easy to miss swearing and as a player in general, it is nearly impossible to follow any sort of a chat dialogue going on. Many many times in the few hours I've played this patch people have replied to comments that I never saw. And then being in game and suddenly having the console go back in time as it were so that all of a sudden the most recent kills it lists happened last round really really confuses you.
Anyways, I really hope the AA dev team fixes this problem and quick.
Ok, off of my soap box now.
Oh, one more thing. The faster flashes and reloads take a fair amount out of the game. There used to be strategy where you might not fire for a while during a shoot-out so that the other guy runs out of ammo first, then he's easy pickings. That's now mostly gone since reloads are faster and if you're not in eyesight of the guy when he runs out, you can't get to him before he's reloaded. They should keep the game as accurate as possible.

I agree with the reload speed...theres also been a few times that I've pulled out a nade so fast it feels like the quickswap glitch. What was the reason for changing the speed of these functions anyway?

I'm with Abrams. I can't say I hate the patch, but I hate that console glitch!!![/b] I think it is extremely disappointing that they would let such an obvious glitch get by (this is what we get when Jeff goes on dial-up and can't properly beta test for them). It's just really, really pathetic.

Actually, I haven't been on the Beta team since the 2.5 release (the last really good one ... hmmm, coincidence? ). Too much other stuff got in the way, and that was the one straw that I could remove from my back to make room for the other straws .

Can't say I hate it, but I can't say I love the console glitch...it's got to be annoying for the admins. [and anyone who needs to watch language and such.] I think they just need to come out with a quick-fix for that console thing, and we should be good to go.
I actually like the faster reloads and flashes...the reloads make it faster paced, and the only way you could get someone because they ran out of ammo in 2.8.2 was if it was a very close quarters battle, and even with the fast reloads it should be no problem to get them when they're that close. Also, the flashes are still plenty long-lasting enough to use when rushing or around corners, etc. Before this update they were way too long, and your vision would go black even if you didn't look at the flash.

I voted Roll it back i Hate it! Version 2.8.3. is allright. But, i have to agree with my brother... I hate that console glitch! Its very annoying. But i do like the fact that the flash bangs are shorter (especially since i get blinded by them all the time in AA )

They changed the speeds of reloading and flash time because a Lot of people complained about them on the AA forums, and they wanted to speed up game play. I however liked the old way, and if someone wants to speed up the game play, they should play Counter Strike, or another FPS that is faster, but much less realistic.

If you guys don't want to open AA Loader when opening AA, just do like this: Right click on the AA Shortcut - Properties - in target, change "AALoader.exe" to "ArmyOps.exe". Enjoy Priit

The reload speed and flashbang times I can agree with, actually.
Think about it. You're a highly trained member of the United States Army; you are a rifleman from the very beginning. You are trained with your weapon until you can lock, load, fire, and then field strip and clean it in your sleep. You think that it's impossible to reload that fast? I think it's lax practice on your part if you DON'T reload that fast. With my airsoft rifle, which is an exact replica of an M16A4, I can pull out my spent magazine, throw it in my dump pouch, pull a fresh one from my chest rig, and slap it into the magazine well with greater than or equal to the speed that it's done in v2.8.3. In a pinch, I can do it even faster by just dropping my spent mag instead of stowing it.
While I can't quite swap AK mags as fast as M16 mags in real life, I can still do it significantly faster than the animations in the old version. Like I said before, you're a highly trained US Army soldier; you're not going to be fumbling with your weapon like a complete neophyte when reloading, even while under fire. The long reload times used to get in the way of the battle; now it feels like taking a natural breath rather than having an asthma attack.
Flashbangs in real life are not designed to blind, though 6-7 seconds of blindness is a side effect of the detonation. They are designed to disorient and confuse by releasing a very loud noise and a shock wave that will wreak havoc on the senses of anyone caught by it in a confined space. Like they're portrayed in v2.8.3, flashbangs in real life are practically useless outdoors.
Finally, the bipod speed now feels about correct. In v2.8.2, setting up the bipod felt like digging your own grave at times because of the absurd amount of time it took to set up and tear down. If you were under fire and you had to take a steady shot to save your team or yourself, it was nearly impossible to set up the M82 and make that shot unless you were extraordinarily lucky, talented, or some odd combination of the two. I really would have preferred a system similar to Insurgency where you can crawl with the bipod down but not shoot until you have it set up, but decreased setup times will suffice.
The changes do not make the game less realistic; in fact, I dare say they make it more realistic and more fluid. If you die, it's because you didn't see that guy coming or you missed the critical shot rather than "OH NO I'M GOING TO DIE BECAUSE I RELOAD LIKE I'VE NEVER SEEN A RIFLE BEFORE IN MY LIFE!"
My 4 cents... yes I have to account for inflation...

I love 2.8.3 based solely on the basis of the ES2 additions to SF Extraction. Seriously, that just added a whole level of fun to the game that I wish was on all the maps. The game changes... I've loved every patch since i started on 2.2.1 or something or other(the only one I didn't like was when they released dockside... and there were lag issues.)

Ok, could someone please explain it to me. I haven't found anything that clearly explains it and I haven't been able to play enough to figure it out. So, I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out.

I voted "Patch? What patch?" since I'm retired. I wanted to see the results, however, so I voted. And looking at the results, it doesn't appear like I'll be rushing to download 2.8.3.
