Just got the file downloaded (at my brother-in-law's house -- much faster here!) ... and it does work on my Vista-powered notebook, so that wouldn't be Bill's problem ... not sure what that might be. Anyway, I'll check out the map more fully when we get back home in an hour or so and post my reaction to it. From the screenshot, though, it looks fabulous (love the gazebo!) ... can't wait to see it.

Every time I tried to open the map it shuts -AA- down and I have to go to task manager and end the process. What's up wit dat? So it's NOT me... I tried again tonight as well as tried to go to David's server and AA hung both times. I was able to take a tip from this string and just kill AAOPS (or whatever it is) instead of having to reboot so I could get AA working again. But I'm not able to load that map. I have XP on a laptop but I've been able to load all other maps... Strange... Sam Hmmm... strange. Can't imagine what causes that. I've tried it on 4 computers and not one of them has this problem. The map is somewhat resource intensive (all those trees and the wide open spaces), so maybe you could try reducing the settings before you enter. There are really only 2 things I think could cause that. 1. The map is fairly large and resource intensive. 2. The map has lots of aiScript, movers, and triggers (that's how I built the elevator). So, here's an idea. I'll make a new special version of the map with the elevator removed and we'll see if that works for you. I'll post it tonight. That seems the most likely to me. The elevator is quite extensive with 2 movers, 3 triggers, and 1 aiScript per floor (x 6 floors), plus some other miscellaneous movers, aiScript, and triggers.

When you downloaded the map did you right click on the link and do download link or download target? You have to click the link (it is not a direct link). It will take you to a website that will make you wait 30 seconds and then give you the link. I tried doing what I think you did and it hung AA. They need better error checking! It wasn't a hard hang at all though (I just had to hit the windows key and do ctrl-alt-del). XP in general is hard to hang. You can tell by looking at the size of the map. It should be approximately 17 MB. Just in case, here is a .zip with the map as originally posted and the map without the elevator: files-upload.com/files/688408/McKenna2Alpha1.zip

Had myself a good look at the map earlier tonight ... very nicely done! Gray Building is nice, but the renovations to the church are my favorite -- still needs some Sunday School classrooms downstairs or something , but very nice other than that ... love the baptistery, too . The elevator is quite impressive also ... haven't seen anyone get one of those to work yet. (Maybe Gardener could take some tips from that and fix the elevator in SF Hotel ... a working elevator is the only thing that the hotel was lacking.

An interactive elevator? Man, that'd be awesome...do any of the official maps have one?

I'm pretty sure I did it the way you described as working but I'm willing to try again - want to take a look! Thanks, Sam

Definitely, give that a try, Sam ... it's worth it! And to answer Joe's question, no ... there are no working elevators in any official maps, as far as I know ... last I heard, even the [Dev] team hadn't figured out how to make them work properly . I haven't seen any among the AAMD submissions either (but it has been a while since I visited there, so maybe someone else got one working).

I have possibly a silly question, where am I able to go to see and play custom maps? Amrica's Army Mission Depot -- AAMD- Download the map you want to play and put it in your 'maps' folder - Open console (AA) and type command: start mapname ... these steps will open the map in single player, you can play online if a server runs that map Marco - @ e^(jpi)=-1-- How about a talking elevator ? PING! "floor 1 ... groceries and giftshops" PING! "floor 2 ... office spaces" PING! "floor 3 ... OBJECT AND ENEMY FIRE!!!" BOOM!! ... RA TA TA TA!!! ... BANG!!

I received a direct link to a different download server and was successful in downloading the map. It is HUGE and amazinglly detailed. Lots of work went into this baby...
Let's give it a shot!

@ e^(jpi)=-1-- How about a talking elevator ? PING! "floor 1 ... groceries and giftshops" PING! "floor 2 ... office spaces" PING! "floor 3 ... OBJECT AND ENEMY FIRE!!!" BOOM!! ... RA TA TA TA!!! ... BANG!! Ha ha. That could actually be done. But I'd have to import a custom sound. I know how to do that, but the mission depot probably wouldn't think too highly of that. Glad you liked it. It did take some time to make. That's why its being released now and not some time ago. That and I get busy with school and don't have much time to work on it. Interesting idea. Maybe I could put them in the basement. But then I'd have to squeeze a decent set of stairs in. Love to share with him. Nice map by the way. Wow, I guess the minor issues mine has aren't too bad. And I can't even use u script. By the way, has anybody discovered the church basement yet? Or the special trap doors to get there? It was an interesting solution to a tricky problem (church doesn't exactly have much space for stairs). Oh, and what do you think I should do with grey building? It's kind of an empty shell right now. Maybe like I said in my initial post?

Yep, the church basement access was interesting ... I liked the little doors there, had to try to open them, and thus found the way in ... also found the trap door in the gazebo (a little more obvious, to be sure, but nicely done also). The sound tech booth is awesome too ! Just a thought for future consideration: you should at least be able to use some built-in sound for a DING as the elevator passes floors and/or the door opens ... maybe the grenade pin "ping", but magnified louder and stretched out a bit (not sure if you can do that or not). As for Grey ... "MOUT McKenna Gift Shop" on the first floor (perhaps including some spare clips of ammo or grenades to pick up among the "merchandise" there ); "cube farm" on the second floor; mid-range offices on the third floor; executive offices and executive spa on the fourth floor.

The elevator does make a noise when it reaches the destination floor (the doors make the appropriate noise). I could add the ding when it reaches the floor. The only problem is it might be a little confusing because of the way the elevator moves. See, it has to move up to go down. That is if it on the 4th floor and it needs to go to the 3rd floor, it has to go to the roof, then the basement, then the 1st floor, etc. So, it moves quite fast, but waits a fair amount once it gets to the floor. That's about what I was thinking (and posted in the 1st post). The ammo clips for the gift shop already exist somewhere else in the map (but the location is secret, you'll have to find it . I am about to start on the 2nd alpha. I will fix a few floating items bugs (thanks Abrams) and fill in the 4th floor of grey.
