Servers: in with the new, out with the old!

  First of all, on behalf of the clan leadership, I apologize to all of you who have been inconvenienced by the thoughtless actions of GameServers, our soon-to-be-former hosting company, in causing the major server outages that we have experienced today (on the Ventrilo voice server, both AA game servers, and the clan chat room).

  It's time for us to enter a new era of server hosting with a far more reliable partner, Clan Solutions LLC. Clan Solutions is legendary for their exceptional network security, extraordinary server uptime, and sensational game-hosting reliability. They're perhaps best known for being the company that hosts the AASA website and forum.

  As Clan Solutions is run by one of my fellow co-presidents at AASA, -=DoW=-_AceDeal, we were able to get a very good deal on AA Honor servers, paying only a few cents more per slot than we were paying our current/previous host, and receiving a far better product, better service, and better support than our current/previous host could ever dream of providing.

  We currently have two AA Honor servers with Clan Solutions:
* a 10-slot Honor Server for co-op maps (currently listed as #3 House-=Of-God=- and running Interdiction)
* an 18-slot Honor Server that will replace our current #1 GS server (currently listed as #4 House-=Of-God=- and running MOUT McKenna)
These servers are both up and running now ... feel free to play on them as you would our other servers if they were both running . In the next day or two, I'll do some tweaking of the server monitors on the main forum page to get these two added to that display.

  Our hosting package also includes a free 30-slot TeamSpeak server, which we may be using as a temporary measure for communications, if GameServers does not get their act together soon enough. Clan Solutions has contacted Ventrilo to begin the licensing process so that they can offer Ventrilo servers; once they are approved to do so, we'll probably be one of their first clients to take them up on that product offering.

  This just leaves the matter of our web hosting. I talked with brother Al (a.k.a. =13th=DISCIPLE) Friday afternoon, and we're set to continue our hosting relationship with them for a long time to come . There will need to be a "slight tweak" in the way that the site is set up (related to their name change from Godz Chozen to =13th=S.O.G and the accompanying domain change), which will probably cause a few things here (like images) not to work well for a few days, as happened a couple of months ago. However, this doesn't need to be done for a few more months yet (although the earlier the better, of course!).

  Okay, that's a lot to write at 2:30AM! If you have any questions, or if any of the above seems really muddled to you, then ask the questions here ... chances are that it's muddled to someone else also!

wow... quite a jump for one week. I hope this all goes smoothly. I'm glad the new server is up.
One question, when/why did we decided to put up another co-op map? I'm certainly not against it, more likely than not I'm for it. Its just that we have a rather bad history with extra servers.

Jeff, don't you EVER sleep? Haven't said it in a while but think it ever day - our clan would not be what it is without your tireless effort on our behalf. Thanks for all you do and God bless you for it.

FYI: The "GameServers" servers are now closed. Our "Clan Solutions" servers are up and running, and are linked on the "Server 1 Viewer" and "Server 3 Viewer" buttons at the top of the main page. (The 18-slot server still shows as "#4", but you'll find it on the "Server 1 Viewer" button.)

I'm also looking into replacing the 26-slot non-honor server for MOUT McKenna XE, but I don't have an ETA on that yet. (Clan Solutions does not have an AA "non-honor" product available.)

(See, when you click those AAOTracker links, it shows you the IP address of the servers right in the "Address" bar of your browser. And when you MouseOver the links, the IP shows in the status bar at the bottom of the browser. )

In other words, the "Show Server 1 Viewer" and "Show Server 3 Viewer" buttons at the top of the forum's main page will tell you everything that you need to know about these two servers, including how to find them.

  I'll be working on getting the TS server running properly tonight, unless I hear from AceDeal that they got approved for Ventrilo already (not too likely, they say 2-4 weeks for approvals ).

  In the meantime, I'd recommend that those who had access to our Vent server go to the TeamSpeak download page, and download and install the TS client program (available for Windows, Linux, and Mac -- just download from the top link in the section for your OS). Of course, if you already have TS installed, you won't need to worry about doing that -- just stand by and wait for the TS server info to be posted once I get it functioning properly and securely.

And the new server seems really smooth i like it and using TS is a shame as the sheer quality of Ventrillo is better but atleast it means we can speak

So, unless I didn't understand something, it sounds like, since our GameServer servers are now closed (according to the note at the top of the forum) and our Clan Solutions servers cannot be non-honor, we no longer have a server running Mout XE. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

@ Joker: The Chat Room is working now, had to make a few changes to the configuration there to move it from the old/dead ofgod.clanservers.com server back to www.Of-God.us.

@ Eskimo: That's correct, for now -- however, as you quoted, we will be getting another #2 26-slot non-honor server to run this map (probably later today). In the meantime, for those who can't contain their hunger for MMXE, I've granted ].[ permission to run it on one of their servers; Liberty said he'd post some info on the server when it's running.

  FYI: We now have a Ventrilo server running, thanks to our good friend TJ (JuDge). It's based in The Netherlands, but it works well and should provide good service for us until Clan Solutions LLC gets Ventrilo licensing.

  For those of you who are authorized to enter our Ventrilo server (members, allies, and potential recruits), go to the Ventrilo Server board now and click the link to set up the new server. (This includes LC members -- this will get you on sooner -- I'll work on individual passes for LC members later.) The board will be a bit rough until the rebuild is finished, but the basics should be there for you to connect. If you can't get it, let me know via reply here.

Well, I guess we aren't going to host the map. Apparently it's not recommended by our server company/we don't have the know how to do it. So yeah, sorry guys

NP, Sam. And that way wouldn't have worked for you anyway, since I hadn't fixed up the Vent board all nice and pretty again at that point (it should be okay now, though ).

Just an FYI -- we do have a new #2 server up again (finally!) -- 26 slots of MOUT McKenna XE in all of its glory! Check the server viewer on the main forum page for more details (yes, the IP address is included there ).

And another FYI ... the reason that the #2 server viewer only shows the server IP, the map link, and AAMD links (instead of player info like the #1 and #3 viewers show) is that the regular viewer does not work on servers that are not running in Authorized mode. If/when MMXE makes it to "Mission Capable" status, then that issue should be resolved.

I'm getting kicked on the #3 for NO PACKET FLOW. I reviewed some topics on the AA.com-forum, but nothing seems to help. Can anyone help me with some solutions (besides reinstalling) ??
