FYI: A security breach has been discovered in a discrepancy between the PunkBuster system and the AA game engine. Due to the nature of the breach, I will not disclose any specific details about it here, other than to say that it is a significant breach related to hackers' ability to hijack the admin functions of a server. One of AASA's co-presidents (and I'm not saying which one, but you all know him pretty well ) was up until 4:30 this morning creating a temporary fix for this situation (until PunkBuster gets their act together and fixes their glaring error ). The fix has been installed on our server as of ... now! One potential problem of this fix is that it may bog the server down at times. If you experience any extraordinary lagging or problems with being able to log in, please respond to this thread to let me know about it as soon as possible, so that I can report it to AASA. Thank you!

Jeff , The last 2 days our server has been extremely laggy. I have been playing with a 15- 17 ping and warping all over the map. Is this related to these scripts?? ~David
PS Others have been complaining of the amount of lag recently also.

Me too, I have been on our servers with 15-25 ping and I've been warping/freezing.

Considering that the new scripts were in place for 5 weeks before anyone complained of excessive lag , I'd say that they're not to blame for it. I would estimate that most of the problem is being caused by the server not being restarted on a daily basis (this is a problem that has been going on since my move to the Stone Age last November, but has gotten worse with my recent attempt to change my sleeping schedule ) -- this makes the log files quite large, which (it would seem) might force the server to have to do more work when it writes things to the logs (which is every time something happens ).

Thanks Jeff, I have been trying to restart the server on a regular basis, but sometimes I am running late for work and can't get to it.. I will try to get better at this on the days I work and am awake to do it.

I'm in at 6am California time - do you want me to restart the server daily during the week?

0800CST is a bit late of a start for the day ... ideally (log-wise), the best time is 0100EST (midnight CST), as that keeps the chatlogs straight (they're named by the day of the week that they're started on) and a lot easier for me to deal with ... but Princess doesn't like me staying up this late any more, so it's hard for me to do now.
