hey, I was on the server about.. 3-4 days ago, and I noticed the ability to spectate from location has been removed. Is this because of 2.8.3.1 and the reset of our server, or have we officially changed our server settings? I for one was rather frustrated that I couldn't spectate using that mode, and would like it back. thanks, -Strategy

I did change that setting when 2.8.3.1 came out, yes. Being able to spectate from locations instead of just players is often associated with ghosting (at least in many players' minds), so removing that may help reduce some of the accusations of ghosting that are made in our server.

If the motivation is the accusations, and not necessarily the use of ghosting, could we not cater to the vast majority of players, visitors, and members who do not ghost, and much less make accusations about it? In the times I have been on the server in the past two or three months, and also on other servers which have much less control over the actions and talk of their guests, I only saw references to ghosting twice.
While ghosting is a issue, it is not nearly as large of an issue as cheating, or even abuses of the server chat. I think that because of this, we used to allow people playing on the server the liberty and privilege of spectating from location if they chose to do so. This has been the rare treat in AA with administrator's who are paranoid about ghosting, going so far as to limit the view of spectators to the eyesight of the character.
Why not give people the liberty of using a resource, and then if they misuse it we proceed with our typical protocols, instead of taking that resource or liberty away completely? We do have the LC members, who are devoted to this activity. We advocate this liberty in the real world, (eg. of situations which limit the individual, and essentially hurt more than help: gun control, red tape, bureaucracy, etc...) and especially in the United States. Why can't we provide it here in the digital world too?
Then again, the issue isn't ghosting, but the accusation's against ghosting. People accuse others of doing things every day, its just something that happens. Yes, one of the uses of our server is to provide a safe haven for those who want to escape all the abuse of "typical" AA servers. But, in my experience, it is our gift to overlook these wrong doings, and on all except the most sensitive people, they just bounce off. I do not think its worth making our sensitive guests lives a little bit more 'safer' from abuse by taking away a part of the server which can bring deeper satisfaction out of the game for all players.
Thats what I think, thank you for considering. -Strategy-=Of-God=-
