Hehe, i thought the title might be fun.
Since I'm applying to join I should probably let you guys know my story (i'd tell you anyway ).
Where to start...ah, ok. I think the process of me was started on one of my mom and dad's vacations....either way I was born in Italy on a Navy base to a family with 1 dad, 1 mom and 1 brother! My father was not a Christian, but my mom was. She made sure my brother and I went to church and learned about God. My dad didn't care so much, but he never joined us.
We moved around a bunch (being in the Navy) and one day ended up in Puerto Rico (wepa!). Soon afterward we found out my father had kidney cancer. We moved back to the States and to make a long story short he died about a year later with the cancer up in his brain. Needless to say I was pretty angry at God.
Funny enough, I lived like a good Christian boy and was really liked at our church (btw, we moved back to PR b/c we didn't like the States' culture in the South...sorry ;D). Nobody knew I didn't trust God. Well, I sort of did, but in the nominal Catholic sort of way - I felt I could do what I pleased and ask for forgiveness later.
One day a family came to our church and they had 3 very beautiful daughters. I liked the oldest but she was too mature for me, so I then liked the second oldest. I joined them to a youth group in San Juan (the capitol) because I wanted to be near her (trust me...she didn't feel the same ). That group of Christians showed me God's love like I had never seen it before (mom did, but she was mom so I figured she had to love me ;D).
SO...all this added up to one retreat in the mountains of PR. We had required quite times so I just flipped open the Good Book and BAM! (thanks for the expression Emeril!) - John 9!
Christ is walking with the disciples and they see a blind man. One of them asks "Why is he the way he is/why did this happen to him?" and Christ replies that it is for the glory of God. [extreme paraphrasing, sorry ;/]. The Holy Spirit put understanding into my brain and I thought - hey! I don't know why "bad things happen to good people" like my dad, but God will still be glorified and he wants to use me!. Cool! So I gave this awesome God my life and its been a ... BIG trip!
So...yes. I must return to a paper on the philosophy of Albert Camus...so FIN!
POST SCRIPT - Oh yeah! I forgot the best part! A few months before my father died he realized he couldn't live life on his own...he gave into GOD!
