I have reviewed the latest log from June 13-14, and I've found that there's nothing wrong with PunkBuster on our server (sorry to disappoint you). Rather, there's something wrong with the clients (players), in that they're running incomplete versions of AA 2.8.5; when the PB server asks the client computer for verification of a file that the client does not have, the player is removed. Here's a copy of the file violations that occurred on those two days:Note that these violations are NOT an indication of cheating ... it's just that the requested file was not found on the client, and so the offending client had to be removed from the server. To prevent this from happening to you in the future: * Load all map packs that are available in the Deploy Client; these files are all checked for accuracy by our server to ensure that no one has a "doctored" version of these otherwise-legitimate files. * Use the Deploy Client for all AA updates; if you receive an update from an external source (even one that you do trust), it might not contain all necessary files . [This is exactly what caused the problem with the missing "Sounds/S_AAO_LvL_FirstAid.uax" and "Sounds/S_AAO_Lvl_MedicTraining.uax" files -- one of the main sources that provided an alternate download of 2.8.3 neglected to include them . If you're being kicked for not having one of these two files, you can fix this by downloading this file from our clan website and un-zipping its contents to your AA's "Sounds" directory.]
Some people have asked in the past why we bother checking for some of these files that are known to have problems (such as those "Sounds" files or maps that lots of players don't have). That is a very good question, but (as always ), there's actually a very good answer: if we didn't check them, players could get cheat programs and rename them to match the names of these legitimate files, then use the cheats on our server. As an example of why we do and must check these files, here are a few more violations that also occurred on those two days; these violations were caused by files that did exist but did not match the legitimate files by those names:As with the "NOT_FOUND" files, these violations do not necessarily mean that the player is definitely cheating; rather, the data from these violations will be reviewed by AASA staff to see if the reported files match any known cheat programs, and if a match is found, then the player will be banned. Even if a cheat match is not found, the player must still get the correct version of the offending file in order to play on our server.
I hope that this all helps clear things up for you ... if you have any questions, need more information, or need some help in getting any or all of the files that you're missing , please feel free to ask.
