Thanks, folks ... been a good day so far, other than spending the first 6½ hours of it at work and most of the rest of it asleep . Just finished my birthday dinner a little while ago -- a chicken/gravy/potatoes/biscuit casserole and California-blend vegetables (broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower), with a chocolate torte cake for dessert (a four-layer chocolate cake frosted with chocolate pudding on the 1st and 3rd layers and Cool Whip on the 2nd and top layers -- my favorite birthday cake, been having that for about 20 years now!). I'll have to spend the last two hours of my birthday at work again also , but other than that, it's been a pretty good day! Thanks for the warm wishes! ~ Peace _________________________ P.S. : honey. Yeah, happy birthday honey... ^^^ Don't Ask, Don't Tell... ^^^ Happy Birthday Jeff... If I weren't so tired, I could come up with some kind of smart-aleck response to all of that ... guess you get off easy this time .

A VERY belated (late!) Happy Birthday to you Jeff! Where can I buy that type of cake? You got me all curious now. It's homemade. You really can't buy it anywhere. But it is so easy to make. I can tell ya how if you would like to know.

It's a pretty simple cake to make, actually -- even I can tell you how it's made! * Get a standard chocolate cake mix (Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker, etc.) and follow the recipe on the box to make it into two 8-inch or 9-inch round cake pans. * After the cakes have cooled, slice each cake in half (top and bottom halves) in order to have four round cake circles. * Put one cake circle on a plate, and spread chocolate pudding on top of it. * Add the next cake piece on top of the pudding, and spread that with Cool Whip. * Repeat the previous two steps with the other two cake circles. * Garnish the top with chocolate chips, if desired. For my birthday, Princess usually puts a circle of chips around the outside, then writes my age with lines of chips in the center. She got a picture of me with this year's cake with her digital camera ... maybe she could post it here as an example (hint, hint ). * Keep chilled (because of the pudding and Cool Whip) -- and if you're diabetic, please use sugar-free substitutes for the cake's elements, because it'll be too hard to resist eating it all! Enjoy!

Thanks, Jeff. You're a regular Julia Child, Martha Stewart, Rachel Ray, etc! I just emailed your recipe to my sister... I have a birthday this month too and am hoping that she will get the hint. We shall see. It sure sounds like a winner dessert. Thanks for sharing the recipe! Mark
