Cool. You will like Fort Jackson. When I was there 10+ years ago, the food was VERY GOOD! They even had Crab Legs a couple of times (although I never chose those as it takes too long to eat them and you don't get much sustenance). Therefore, my "secrets" of Basic Training... On the way there, you will ask yourself about a billion times "What was I thinking?"... Forget it. It is too late now, but don't worry, you'll make it through... Once you get there, try to blend in... Standing out because you are "ate up" isn't good as the Drill Sgt's will make your life miserable... Standing out because you are a super soldier won't help either as then you'll get your bunk mates irritated... So, do what the Drill Sgt's tell you, but blend in... Realize most of the time when they "drop" you, it is nothing more than an excuse to help you in your physical fitness... Then, guessing by your MOS, you'll be going to Ft. Gordon after... I was signal as well and that is what Ft. Gordon specializes in... You'll like AIT, but Ft. Gordon doesn't have quite the food quality that Ft. Jackson had... Make sure you find a way to post your address when you leave and maybe we can get some mail out to you when you are gone. (There's nothing like hearing your name in mail call)... Maybe we can "Bless" you and make sure you get some contra-band items via Mail on your first couple weeks; My mom did that to me... Sent me a HUGE bag of Reeses Pieces my first week in Basic... Drill Sgt was not impressed! I got like 5 and had to split the rest of them with the bay of 60 guys... Anyways, Be Blessed. Thank You for Serving our Country! All Men and Women who have ever served, are serving, or will serve are and will always be Heros!

Well, in all fairness, it was over 10 years ago... And the Defac's are independent contractor, SOOooo, they may have different contractors by now. But when I went through, the food was amazing! I was in the barracks right across the street (and across the grass) from the Victory Tower...
