I just saw in the paper this morning that the NHL will be testing the use of blue ice instead of white ice, in an effort to see if it can get more fans interested in the game. (No, really, they are -- to quote Dave Barry, 'I am not making this up!' The Sabres' farm team in Rochester will be testing the blue ice this weekend when they host Cleveland at HSBC Arena in Buffalo -- click the link above to check it out.) As usual, major league sports has missed out on the obvious. I have come up with a much better solution to the problem of getting sports fans interested in hockey. Instead of changing the color of the ice, why don't they try just putting some players out on the ice instead?

Amen brother! The greed on both sides of the table has led to fans like me being left out in the cold.

I'm a football fan so the hockey issue doesn't bother me much. I just hope the NFL doesn't become like thr NHL. I do agree with Peace's comment about just putting players on the ice.

Well Boise state university right near where I live has blue turf for their football field. Link: www.broncosports.com/fb_facilities.aspMaybe they should have red ice so when the players start fighting the blood blends in.

Go Amerks!! ;D
I will say that, with the strike, the Amerks are playing great hockey because there's no Sabres robbing us of the best players.
Another tidbit: the Buffalo Sabres were purchased last year by billionaire Tom Golisano, a Rochesterian and founder of Paychex. This is one investment where I don't think he'll ever make his money back.
