Just an FYI on where we currently stand. #1 and #2 have been rebuilt and are currently running McKenna and Bridge, respectively. Due to the hack attack, #1 is currently banned from AAOTracker; I have petitioned them for a reinstatement of that server to their tracked servers list, but have not yet heard back from them on that yet. However, #2 is still being tracked.
I am currently in the process of rebuilding #3; so far, this mess has cost me four hours of sleep, with no end in sight yet.

thank a lot Jeff! :first:
Wouldn't it be handy to back it all up? Or is that not possible?

It is backed up, yes, as much as possible -- but it still takes a long time to get it reinstalled and reconfigured.
BTW, #3 is now back up, on SF Extraction. All three servers are honor, and #2 and #3 are tracked. There is no word yet from AAOT on whether they will allow #1 to be tracked again.

Today I was on EU (mout) server. wasn't tracked either Talked a bit with an admin, he said that they had a hacker problem too... I don't understand why they don't release the patch to fix this backdoor...

Hey, not to worry, sleep is highly overrated anyway, maybe I'll get some tonight (yes, I'm still up from yesterday morning, and dragging badly at work today ).

I found some disturbing info on AAO. Apparently a moderator named [MPC]gil also moderates a hackers forum -- he has 10.000 posts over there and he's the one that handed over the source of this new hack to the devs. He admits that he cheats and that he 'tested' the new hack himself. It's messed up that someone like him can have a forum position on AAO For all i know he helped building the hack himself. This really made me re-think my opinion on the AAO staff

Yep, anyone involved in AC work knows Gil, or at least knows of him. While I don't condone his activities, I must clarify your comments there. Gil found out about the serverside exploits when someone tried to post a destructive/disruptive cheat at the cheat forum that he moderates. He immediately took that cheat off of the forum and informed the DEV team about the potential hazard to AA servers. Once the DEV team had a fix in place, Gil assisted them (at their invitation) in testing their fix (can't make sure it works unless someone tries to use something that it's supposed to stop), and their fix worked. It was only well after the DEV team had created the fix for the problem that Gil allowed the reposting of the exploit information on that forum. Even then, he did not create/distribute any serverside hacks, nor did he allow any serverside hacks to be placed on the forum (although he did allow the information that could be used to create them). His forum's "morality line" (if you can call it that : has always been clientside hacks only, nothing that disturbs/disrupts the server's functions (probably based more on a legal standpoint than an ethical standpoint, in my opinion). The main failure was in the Army's distribution of the fix. By the time the exploit information was unveiled on that forum, the Army should have had the DEV team's fix on every server running AA, or at least on every Honor server. However, now several days later, it is still only the U. S. Army Official servers that have that fix, and it doesn't appear to be forthcoming to any other servers very soon. Anyway, I'm not condoning what Gil does, because he's dead wrong in what he does at that forum, as a general rule (and he makes my job at AASA a lot harder) -- but in this case, he's not the real villain -- he went well out of his way to help protect AA from the serverside exploit. The AA managers in the Army failed to distribute the fix for the problem that Gil informed the DEV's about and helped the DEV's test -- unfortunately, they're the true villains in this story , because they had the fix but decided that leased-official servers such as ours weren't worthy of being protected -- and now, because of their negligence and gross dereliction of duty, our #1 server isn't being tracked . As to Gil being an AA mod -- is that at the main AA forum, or at AAOTracker? I do find it odd that he would be a mod at either of those sites. :Scratch-Chin:

i found the info on AAO out of bits and pieces of quotes and replies. He supposely is a moderator on AAO. And he doesn't only allow people to post their hacks on the forum he moderates, he admits that he uses things like radar and other stuff (..no aimbot though....that's unethical in his opinion ) edit - i can't find a trace of this Gil guy on aao forum/tracker so possible he only moderates the MPC hacker forum. Funny how [GA]Homey and a lot of others think that doing 1 good thing justifice his cheating. It's a good thing that he handed over the source to the Dev's but that doesn't change my opinion about him though. quote of the day by [MPC]Gil

Well, it doesn't really lower my opinion of the AA devs or the AAOTracker staff because I didn't have a very good opinion of either in the first place. It doesn't come as a huge surprise to me...

I don't quite understand; why was Server #1 banned from AAO Tracker?

The reason it is banned from tracker is because of a "cheater" who entered our server and messed up the files with a hack that has been going around Leased-Official Servers lately. Because of the file problems, the server was reporting rediculous stats such as 1100 kills in one round and Beauty said that she blew herself up with a nade and got 3000 points. Hope that explains why it is not tracked.
