For those of you who were here at Veterans Day last year, you may remember this post -- but it's worthy of bringing up again for this Memorial Day weekend.
As most of us enjoy our 3-day "holiday", let's be sure to take some time out to ponder exactly what this day of remembrance is all about, and to thank those who have paid the price (whether by giving some or by giving all) so that we could be free today -- because freedom is never free.* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Freedom's Never Freeby Dan Dean, Shawn Craig, Dave Clark & Don Koch©1999 Dawn Treader Music/Dudebabe Music/SESAC/Ariose Music/Praise Song Press/ New Spring Publishing/Callendar Lane Music/ASCAP/Boisseau Music/Definitive Music/BMIStanding on the hillside, where the river meets the sea,
White crosses without number line the fields of peace,
Each one a silent witness staring back at me.
______________________________________________
Every cross the story of another place and time
Where a young man thought it worthy to give his life for mine,
And for the sake of honor, left his dreams behind.
______________________________________________
And for the price each paid, I'm forever in his debt;
Their memory will not fade -- no, I will not forget!
______________________________________________
I will stand and hold my head up high;
I will dedicate my life to the glory of the ones who fought and died
So I can live, and live what I believe --
If for no one else but me -- I will remember
that freedom's never free.

Thanks to all the veterans.
Were it not for their sacrifices, more than likely this forum would not be here. Nor our freedom, which we often take for granted.
Do you know a vet? Call them up, or better go see them. Let them know how much you appreciate what they did.

My grandfather on my mom's side was a CPO(Chief Petty Officer) in the United States Navy during World War 2. He trained dozens of companies in preparations for D-Day. I honor him and the millions upon millions of men and women who have served our country.
And Godspeed to those who continue to serve our country in our Armed Forces.

This is my first time seeing it. Awesome tribute. Like Princess, my dad was a vet during Korea. He didn't see any action cause he was a DI in the Air-Force. But I appreaciate that he served. Someone had to train the raw recruits:)

If anyone ever gets the chance to visit Europe make sure to put Normandy (France) on the list. The picture is impressive but the real thing will make you realize how many brave people gave their lives for the freedom of Europe. it will make you go quiet and gives you big respect for all the veterans of all the countries who fought in this and any other conflict around the world.
