I just got the Casting Crowns CD last night; we'll be listening to it later today as we travel. They're a bit more upbeat than I'm used to (and that's coming from a guy with three Newsboys CD's in his collection), but it's great, solid music. Some of the guys on Vent last night got a taste of one of their songs last night, when I hit the wrong button and streamed my iTunes player instead of my microphone ;D -- they can attest to it being rather "upbeat"! If you want a song that'll rip your heart out, throw it on the ground, and stomp on it -- they've got something for you! I wept at the concert last month when they sang American Dream, about a man who's too busy trying to provide all the "finer things" for his family, and he doesn't take the time to spend time with them -- not realizing that "all they really wanted was you". (I downloaded the song from iTunes a couple of days ago as the free song that I won on a Mountain Dew bottle cap, and I've listened to it around 20 times already.) For those who aren't fathers, you can feel the same heart-wrenching conviction of the Holy Spirit by listening to What If His People Pray?, and even more so, with If We Are the Body. And if you're feeling discouraged, The Voice of Truth should give you some encouragement to press on in your faith as you listen only to God's voice, and not to the voices around you that try to bring you down. If you can find Casting Crowns' CD, add it to your collection! (or download the songs from iTunes.com -- it's usually cheaper that way, actually, only 99 cents a track -- and burn your own CD). Even if the other songs aren't as good (don't know since I haven't heard them yet), it's still worth it for those four songs.
