I really got into reading Christian books lately but I'm running out of lecture. The purpose of this thread is to list books that made an impact on your personal relationship with Christ, growth in insight and understanding, improvement of your Christian way of living. It would mean a lot to me if you could list your favorite books here togheter with some info (subject, author, difficulty, ect..). I still have some books that I can read for the moment but it takes a while to order them from the net. We do have a library at our church but I prefer english reading material simply because there's a bigger offer of books in that language and it helps me to master the language Thanks and God bless! Marco - ps - 18 weeks ago I ordred my first book from Amazon.com but it keeps getting delayed with 4 - 6 weeks. Is this common ? What is your opinion about this website ? It would be awesome if you could list online resources as where to buy these books aswell.

I dont know where to get em, other then amazon, but let me begin.
Ted Dekker (author) (in order of how much I love em) -Thr3e -Circle Trilogy (Black, Red, White) -Blink -Obsessed -Showdown -House (along with author Frank Peretti) -Heaven's Wager -Thunder of Heaven -When Heaven Weeps -Blessed Child
The entire left behind series by Tim LaHaye is wonderful. Also the Babylon Rising series.
The Oath, and The Monster by Frank Peretti are also good.
There are probably more I cant think of atm, but Ted Dekker is definetly a fantabulous author who writes some stories with great symbolism and plot twists.
Feel free to ask ?'s on any of em, I have no problem talking bout Dekker lol

haha.. music beat me to the "circle" series. That is really good. It is an excellent representation of "the fall" in the first book. I havn't read the 2 sequels, but i'm sure they are excellent.
Also, any books by Francine Rivers are pretty good. I personally loved the "Mark of the Lion" series. Its about a girl taken captive after Titus destroyed Jerusalem, and about her life after that in Rome.

The Calling, and God's Smuggler by Brother Andrew are potentially the two best books I've ever read (outside of the Bible). They are about a man named Brother Andrew. During the Cold War he was called by God to smuggle Bibles into Communist countries and other places where Bibles were illegal. The stories of how God protected his life and the life of those who he worked with and ministered to. If you can read those books and not cry atleast once then man I don't know you must be one tough cookie. I'd recommend these to anyone. hooah those two books can be found: hereand: herethey're worth it

Thanks for the responses so far - I'm not really into reading story based books though, I like reading testimonies, elaboration and insight in passages from the bible....that kinda reading I like a lot. - The books that I'm very happy about at the moment are from writers like Billy Graham, I'm not very knowledgeable about the top authors in the Christian community so it's hard for me to select similar books to the ones I'm reading right now. I'll check out the books mentioned above to read during my 2 month vacation and thanks again for taking the time to respond Marco -

If you're looking for some indepth (but easy to understand) Bible study books, I must recommend Dr. J. Vernon McGee's Thru The Bible commentary series. It's available from CBD in a 5-volume set, covering the entire Bible. (If the author's name sounds familiar -- Tested likes incorporating some of Dr. McGee's material into his Bible studies for the clan. )

I'm very interested in the volume set of Dr McGee, can't help myself picturing him as a little old man with poor eye sight lol . I'm home 7 weeks without an income so I'm trying not to buy too much at the moment, I'll order it when I can. I'm also very happy about a book someone gave to me in our church, "The purpose driven life: What on earth am I here for" by Rick Warren". I just started reading it, it's a very practical book and we study it at our church like every 4th wednesday of the month. Marco -

Personally, I'm not a big fan of anything by Rick Warren (including Purpose Driven Life), due to his books' hidden agenda of promoting Zen-based "contemplative spirituality" (read more about it at this website -- thanks for pointing me to that site a while back, Tested! ). But I do recognize a couple of the other ones there, and you'll have some good reading on your hands for quite a while to come! ;D

Personally,Gripped by the greatness of God-James MacDonald. awesome book. And if your looking for deep learning, but dont have time to read at times...check out pod casts from itunes,so much good stuff on there its insane..piper,chandler,macdonald,mcarthur,DTS(dallas theological seminary) and sooo much more.
But as far as books go, I havent read much...never been a big reader until lately. but anything by MacDonald i really like. "Gripped by the Greatness of God" and "God wrote a book" are two great ones, the second one tells you how we know and how to defend that the Bible is genuine. great book.
God bless ^_^

Maybe at the beginning of next year you can pick up a copy of "Struggle Creek" by Peculiar People. It isn't an indepth study but it's Christian based. It's fiction but has a lot of Spiritual references.
Okay shameless promotion of my book. Well it's actually a group thing but it should be in print early next year.
I just wanted to say that I am so glad that you have been reading and studying God's Word. It is so important for any Christian to do, even us old ones who have been Christians all our lives. Keep it up and keep asking questions. It's one of the best ways to learn.
