So going along with Strategy’s post about SF Recon, I thought I might give a brief intro to Radio Tower, also a very large map that doesn’t seem too popular. Although I used to play this a lot when I first began (before I found MOUT), I am in no way an expert with the map so take this with a grain of salt.
Basics first, like I said this is a very large map, don’t know but guess about same size as Recon. It can be a very sniper oriented map depending on how you run it. As I am horrible at sniper maps, usually the guy who doesn’t know where he’s being shot at from, I try to make this close contact. The key to that is getting to the tunnels and staying off the ridges (obviously). Tunnels connect all the objectives on this map but can be confusing if you don’t know them. They will get easier when you play them for a while. Assault has three objectives located in the radio tower second floor, radio tower basement, and observation post basement. They have to get all three at once.
Map Above:
So on the picture above, the red dots represent common defense sniping points and the blue dots represent the same for assault. The red lines represent roughly the tunnels in the map and the blue represent common assault routes, roughly.
Assault:
There are three common ways to go, labeled 1-3 above. Number 1 is to go first to the observation post which usually ends up being the less well-defended objective. Number 2 is to go to the ruins on top of the hill. This usually ends up being a big spot for sniping and early action with it being attacked by defense from center peak sniping and ruins to the south. The third and more common is to run along the canyon south to the radio tower. It is usually more easily assaulted from slightly southeast. All three routes have to watch for snipers on the hills but the third is usually a little safer that way. Once you get to observation post or radio tower and get objectives, I use tunnels to go everywhere else, less open to sniping.
Defense:
Not much to say about this side. You can either get out and snipe, stay in and camp, or even try to flank the assault team by going along route 1 or 3. Remember that all objectives can be reached through tunnels so if assault get sone or more of them, you can easily get to defend objective without leaving tunnels and maybe run into assault in them.
If anyone has any corrections or stuff to add, feel free. I am by no means an expert on this map and actually haven't played it in quite a while.
