That's pretty handy, Ben -- thanks for the suggestion!
For those of you using Windows XP instead of Vista, you can do something similar
with based off of
the server monitors that we use on our main page here -- just set up their new Active Desktop counterparts as elements on your desktop
... here's how:
1. Right-click a blank spot on your desktop and select "Properties".
2. Click the "Desktop" tab.
3. Click the "Customize Desktop" button.
4. Click the "Web" tab.
5. Click the "New" button.
6. Enter this monitor address in the field:
www.of-god.us/monitor/AD1.php 7. Click the "OK" button.
8. You should see an "Add Item to Active Desktop" dialog box; click the "OK" button.
9. Repeat steps 5-8, using this address in step 6:
www.of-god.us/monitor/AD2.php 10. If "Lock Desktop Items" is checked, un-check it, then click "OK" twice to return to the desktop.
11. Find the new items; position and re-size them as necessary.
12. Repeat steps 1-4, then check the "Lock Desktop Items" box and click "OK" twice to return to the desktop.
Here's an example of how it looks on my desktop:
BTW, for the Garfield fans out there, you can add that to your desktop also -- the URL of that page is "
www.of-god.us/peace/Garfield2.html". To stack the daily Garfield strip's frames on top of each other instead of viewing them side-by-side, I used a little programming trick that one of the Hudlow boys taught me
. If you'd rather have it the "regular" way (which works better for the Sunday strip), that's available at "
www.of-god.us/peace/Garfield.html". (I have both of these set on my desktop ... I just disable the Sunday one during the week, then enable the Sunday one and disable the daily one on Sundays. That way, I can save the proper dimensions of both boxes
. Of course, I'll have to change the Sunday box now, since I've got the server monitors on my desktop there
.)
Update, 2/4/09: To add another block to your Desktop for our new non-honor co-op server, just repeat steps 5-8 (again!) and use this address:
www.of-god.us/monitor/AD3.php
