Creation's Whisper
George Parler
January 27, 2010
As I walked up the staircase from the lower hull of the rig to the main deck. My mind whirled in the fog of frustration. The plethora of oilfield politics played by land based management had me ready to snap and bark like a junkyard dog. The demands of the job today seemed abnormally immense. I was just thankful this day was coming to a close.
When I reached the main deck I looked down at the deck as I exited through the watertight door way. My sore ankle still reminded me to be sure of my footing but then I raised my head and stopped dead in my tracks. My eyes were filled with the magnificence before me. My panting breath immediately grew shallow as the rate of my heartbeat slowed.
The sunset before me was like no other I had seen. The clear night sky above strained to reach the horizon but the Sun took its leisure to sink ever so slowly into the amber sea. A rich tangerine band stretched across the horizon fading upward into the night sky. The North Star shined bright beyond the calm waters of the silent sea. Though the cool night air embraced the skin of my face I felt no chill, only a deep warmth. The solitude and serenity of that moment began to bathe my troubled mind, washing away the needless cares that I allowed to weigh me down. I took a deep breath as I finally watched the Sun disappear in its journey with its promise to return again.
I turned to walk away but stopped and looked up into the heavens and smiled. "Thank You, Father."
