As I said in another thread moments ago, "Q" is the default key for the "SetSquadObjective" command, but what does it do? Yes, I know how to use it and what it does if it is done properly; I'm just curious to see if anyone else knows it, because in 2+ years of playing AA, I can't recall a single instance where I have seen anyone (other than me ) doing it correctly. Okay, class, here's your challenge: 1. Explain the proper usage of the "SetSquadObjective" command.
2. Detail what happens when the command is executed properly.(hint: this one IS a trick question ) And here are the rules for the challenge: - 1. DO NOT look in the AA user's manual for the answer (um, you do know that AA comes with a user's manual, right? well, it does, but you aren't allowed to use it to help you answer this question ;D).
- 2. If you think that you know the answer -- DO NOT POST IT HERE!!!! Instead, click here to PM me your best guess.
- 3. After I receive enough attempts (or after someone actually provides the right answer ), I'll post some of the best guesses here, along with the real answer in response here and then open this thread up for more discussion about it.
Fair enough? Then start submitting your essays, class!

OK, so, the prof's a bit overdue in grading your papers (but hey, what's three months between friends, right? ). Here are some of the responses that I received. All were pretty good and close to the mark -- but none of them properly and fully answered question #2 to my satisfaction. All were very good tries, though -- thank you for participating!!

Okay, at long last, the correct answer to the questions!
1. The "SetSquadObjective" command is used by the Squad Leader to establish an objective for the squad to achieve. The default key for this is "O", although many players choose to use other less-strategic keys for this command, so that "O" can be used for commands that are used more often; for example, mine is on the single-quote, so that I can use "O" to "TeamSay Oops. :-[". To execute the command properly, the Squad Leader must hit the key for the command, then follow that with the key (A, B, C, or D) that correlates to the objective which he wants his squad to achieve. (SIDENOTE: although this is usually done to tell the squad to secure an open or enemy objective, it can also be used to tell the squad to defend an already-secured objective.)
2. Once the Squad Leader has issued the command properly, it will send a radio commo to all living teammates: "Check your objectives!" This will also show in the console as "SquadLeader'sName radioed: Squad, check your objectives!" At the same time, the Objective matching the letter that the Squad Leader pressed will be underlined in the compass display for his team. In the rare event that the command is followed properly, the squad will immediately proceed to that objective and either defend it or secure and defend it, as needed, until given further orders; however, this is indeed a rare event. Instead, the Squad Leader's teammates normally ignore the command and continue doing whatever they feel like doing, in violation of the RoE via insubordination to the Staff Sergeant. Often when I am Squad Leader, I'll give the order for the squad to take one of the two remaining objectives, while I sneak in and take the other. I estimate that 80-85% of the time in this situation, the squad ignores the order and leaves me "hung out to dry" at the second objective after I take it. However, when the command is both issued and followed correctly, the result is usually a great success for the team; even if that round is lost, the teamwork built from following orders together and working toward a common goal reaps great rewards in the long run.
Well, there you have it -- that's "your world, as I see it". I'll unlock the thread for further discussion of this now -- enjoy!

What really bugs me is when the squad doesn't follow the command. I set the objective and hope the squad goes there while i sneak in and secure the other objective. Oh well...
