Baby Gates
For the first time in, oh, a decade, I think, something from Microsoft shipped on time: Jennifer Katharine Gates, weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces when she was downloaded, er, born on Friday, April 26 at 6: 11pm.
And what do Baby Gates and Daddy's products have in common?
1. Neither can stand on its own two feet without a LOT of third party support.
2. Both barf all over themselves regularly.
3. Regardless of the problem, calling Microsoft Tech Support won't help.
4. As they mature, we pray that they will be better than that which preceded them.
5. At first release they're relatively compact, but they seem to grow and grow and grow with each passing year.
6. Although announced with great fanfare, pretty much anyone could have produced one.
7. They arrive in shaky condition with inadequate documentation.
8. No matter what, it takes several months between the announcement and the actual release.
9. Bill gets the credit but someone else did most of the work.
10. For at least the next 3 years, they'll stink.

Pretty funny. It's almost sad how many people believe that Bill Gates invented the first operating system! -Tuxlover

I'm using Gentoo Linux and Firefox to view these forums, you guys don't know what you're missing . True, Microsoft brought good things, or at least one good thing; the concept of an OS for household computers. Now however, Billy Boy is only exercising his monopoly to gain more wealth while contributing nothing to the world. And in fact holding people back from using a truly good operating system, due to software programmers not wanting to take the risk to port there products to other, better operating systems. Just my 3 cents

Did you install the gentoo yourself?? If you did....well...YOU ROCK!!! Heh, yeah I did, it took 3-4 days the first time, then my hard drive cratered and it took about 24 hours the second time. It's not that hard if you follow the handbook. My first Linux distro was Fedora, then after a couple months I wanted something better, so I installed Gentoo.

So Bill Gates gives nothing back to society and tries to suck dry all the money he can with his products?
Hm. Wow. If that's not slander, I don't know what is.

... actually... he does give give back to society... HE donated to Lynnwood High School of Washington (my school) half of the total computers the school now has. These were placed in various classrooms and computer labs throughout the school. They are nice, the only problem is that the dsl (which has nothing to do with the hardware) goes throughout the whole school on a single server so it is worse than dial up. they are powerful comps though.

So Bill Gates gives nothing back to society and tries to suck dry all the money he can with his products? That's about it. Hm. Wow. If that's not slander, I don't know what is. Not exactly, slander is false. ... actually... he does give give back to society... I was really saying that he contributes nothing to society as far as allowing software to get better as technology advances. I admit he does donate a lot to charity and such, but the positive effect he has doing that is not as extreme as the negative effect he has in the long run, by trying to make sure people continue to use Windoze. If you get a good Linux distro, use it for a while, and then say that Windoze is just as good, I would have to listen; even if I didn't agree. ;D
