I heard somewhere that when 3.0 comes out, MOUT McKenna is gone? Is this true information??? I love that map

I do not know if that is true, but I do know 100% that 3.0 will be a completely new game from the ground up. Because of this there will be new maps specifically designed to take advantage of the Unreal Engine 3. Of course it is possible that some of the most popular AA2.x maps will be included as updated and improved versions of themselves. Look at the Halo series: we have Blood Gulch in Halo1, then Coagulation in Halo2, and finally Valhalla in Halo3. Each of these maps is very similar to each other, but significantly different and in the opinion of some better. I'd say to expect some sortof MOUT infantry basic training completion course just like the MOUT we have now, but a updated better version. To be honest... call me a heretic, haha, but I'm ready to kick MOUT out the door. After having played it for 300+ hours... its gotten somewhat old and predictable. There are some really interesting and better developed maps out there which (as far as originality and game play) take the cake as a better map. No offense intended to those who stick to their gun(no s)... heheheh, but I'm ready to get some people out of their comfort zone to find something new.

I really don't mind McKenna, but I too am ready for some urban combat in a different setting. Steamroller really took MOUT to a whole new level by introducing massively vertical terrain and ridiculous amounts of cover and non-cover. I'd like some hardcore vertical combat in the next MOUT training mission...

I agree ...steamroller is entirely too big....plus it bogs down people with pretty good hardware.
As for mout disappearing....I think it has the best chance of carrying over to 3.0 for 1 and 1 reason only. Mout actually exists....and is a real part of the army....pretty tough to have a realism game without the actual combat training facility......if any map makes it.....Mout will. IMO
As for getting boring....I have 1200 hrs there and I'm still learning stuff.....And still get excited to play when I've been off for a day or two.

only one map to rule them all ------- Mout ,i have about 1300 hours tracked on that map (tracked with 1 account ) and i have 7 accounts so I'm mout addicted it's still the top map on AAO . Everybody can play that map ,equal guns ,if you play other maps like border or a SF MAPS you have to be lucky to have a good gun ,sniper to see father then others ,thats not far ,but thats just my op-ion .

I never said Steamroller was perfect. Yes, the map was entirely too big for so few players and difficult to play on without respawns. I think some tweaks to sight lines and a reduction in the area covered could fix those issues. As for MOUT McKenna, the level used in AAO only encompasses a small portion of ONE of the several US Army MOUT facilities, so I think it would stand to reason that other areas could be opened up for use (a la XE) or set as entirely different maps. Alternatively, an entirely different facility could be selected as the setting for that mission, changing the layout while retaining the feel of the old school map.

I do like MOUT, but it is somewhat old for me . I really like semi-confined urban-area maps like Urban Assault. And btw, when exactly does 3.0 come out? CAN'T WAIT!

A young member I can corrupt. Endurance... you must check out maps like SF Extraction. Its really good for medium range urban fighting. Border is a very nice open map for medium-long range fighting as well. Though those are both Briefcase-extraction maps... Something similar to MOUT would be Urban Assault. Slightly bigger than MOUT with more buildings and variety. Two objectives similar to MOUT's. ;D And btw, when exactly does 3.0 come out? The word on the official AA forums as shown here: forum.americasarmy.com/viewtopic.php?t=259457is (however... "initial release dates" are rather notorious for being inaccurate in the AA community . Be optimistic, but I personally think it will be out more around Early '09. )

That is SOOOOO 15th century... Throw him in a river. If he swims, he's a heretic!!! Only real way to settle this. Oh yea, btw, steamroller is hands down the best map in the game and I do wish that our clan played other maps more than MOUT. It gets old.

Right... and if I drown then what? I'll be dead... lol. I'll stick with being alive, thanks.
I haven't really tried steamroller that much, you guys have piqued my interest though. I'm going to check it out this summer.

Any word on the status of MOUT XE? I'm guessing that when it gets 'approved' the clan's server will be running that map correct? I have to say that the mission editor has really peaked my interest in mission building... may have to take a crack at one just for the experience. ~ Frank

I play A LOT of different maps. Obviously MOUT is my favorite. Probably 85 of my 89 honor points came from MOUT/Church Tower. Probably 1500 of those hours were spent in the Tower. If they do away with MOUT I'll have no use for my "AutoRunToTower.v9.exe hack.
