Here's a great way to get some "live" target practice against opponents that aren't quite as quick and smart as the average AAO gamer that you might face online. I've been using this technique for about a week now, and it has made a noticeable improvement in my gameplay.
To begin with, you'll need to have a key bound for the following command (I use F10 for mine):
summon agp_characters.NPC_Soldier
This command creates an OpFor soldier 'dummy' in front of you (in single-player training mode only).
Now, open AAO, but instead of going into the 'Deployment' area, bring up the console by hitting the ` key, then type:
start mout_mckenna
You will see the game loading as normal (but without the squad and position selection screens). Once you are standing in the Honor spawn area, your console should still be open; type:
class r
Hint: you can substitute the code for whatever class you want to be for the "r" above. For training purposes, I recommend either "r" (Rifleman) or "ar" (Automatic Rifleman), since that's what you'll be using at the McKenna MOUT site. But just for fun, feel free to try some of the other codes, like "s" (Sniper), "svd" (OpFor Sniper), "ak" (OpFor Rifleman), "rpk" (Opfor Automatic Rifleman), "g" (Grenadier--M203), or my new favorites: "at4" (anti-tank rocket), "rpg" (rocket-propelled grenade launcher), and "sf" and "spr" (SF and SF Sniper).
After you enter your class selection, you'll receive your weapon and be able to move around in the map. You will now need to create the OpFor army; to do this, just stand with a couple of feet between you and any obstacles, and hit the key that you bound for creating the OpFor dummies.
You will instantly see the OpFor dummy standing in "ghost" mode--arms stretched straight out. They are somehow comfortable at staying in this position until you tell them to move by opening the console and typing:
walk
As soon as you do this, the OpFor dummies will lower their arms, take up arms--MILES AK-47's, to be precise--and start walking around. You will then have very little time before they start shooting at you--I recommend that you shoot first and ask questions later, if you have any to ask! (They usually don't answer anyway.) :-)
Before I issue the "walk" command, I usually wander around the map and deposit 5-10 squads of 3-5 OpFor dummies each at random locations. Unless you have a hyper-super-computer, I wouldn't recommend going up against more than 50 OpFor dummies at once. Your computer operates and "thinks" for all of the OpFor, so your game progress can be very laggy if there's a lot of OpFor on-screen.
Once I get the OpFor in place and issue the "walk" command, then I roam the map and try to pick the OpFor off as rapidly and as accurately as possible. Objectives are meaningless in this type of training (you can secure all three and continue playing), so I don't bother with them.
Once either you or all the OpFor are dead (keep a count while you're placing them!), use the 'disconnect' command to end your session, or 'reconnect' to start over. Or, if your health is still fine, use the 'killpawns' command to remove all the OpFor corpses and start over.
Okay, that's it for now. Give it a try, and let me know how it works out for you!

NOTE: Thanks and a great big "HOOAH!" go out to Koroush Ghazi (a.k.a. PersianImmortal), whose "America's Army Tweak Guide" gave me the idea for this training exercise. The information that I used to create this is on the third page of the guide, but if you get some time, read the whole guide. If you do, I can almost guarantee that you'll learn something new about this great time-waster we call AAO! Thanks again, PersianImmortal!
